What is a warm or cold VPN location?

Warm - Server Capacity Available

A Warm VPN location is where we have server capacity immediately available for you to connect to the VPN. These locations are indicated by a GREEN dot.

Cold - Fully Serverless

A Cold VPN location is a fully serverless location indicated by a BLUE dot. In serverless computing, this is referred to as a 'cold start' or 'cold boot'.

Benefits

The benefit of a warm location is that you can connect to the VPN immediately.

The benefit of a cold, fully serverless location is that on connect you obtain a new dedicated server and may receive a new IP address depending on the location.

Preview

These cold and warm indicators serve as recommendations for the time it takes to connect to the VPN. For warm locations, you can expect a connection in just a few seconds. For cold locations, you can expect a connection in 40 to 70 seconds.
